Getting hands on with the digital tools transforming the construction industry

Then you have the gateway device that can download apps that will change how you work onsite, as I discovered when talking to Harrison Hall of Sablono, an ex-construction manager who now helps others benefit from technology. 

Harrison: "Having been a construction manager, I can relate to the challenges faced onsite. For example, my previous roles involved documenting crucial evidence photos for things like fire safety throughout the construction process. 

"In the past, it meant using my phone and emailing photos to myself. Now, with our app, I can instantly capture pictures, record details and make notes with the date, time and geolocation automatically recorded.  

This is then sent directly to the central database setup for the project in our cloud-based system, which alerts the relevant team members and managers. 

Ensuring the necessary evidence is captured before proceeding prevents delays and ensures compliance, which can also be shared with the National House Building Council Inspectors (NHBC). 

Once approved, the app can alert the relevant trades, like dryliners, to the apartment, in this case, that is ready for work to commence. Having a real-time process with prompt responses keeps everyone on the same page.

"It's about streamlining the process, reducing handover times and avoiding unnecessary delays that could cost both time and money."
